Why Long Hair?

As you may have noticed, each of us wear our hair just as long as it will grow. Many people ask if we will ever cut it, and to this we reply a prompt, “never.” Scissors have not touched our hair for over 13 years now and only becomes ever more dear to us the longer it grows, and is worn with a grateful and godly pride: a walking testimony, wherever we may be, of what we believe God intended for a woman to wear. The hair of a woman is her God given glory.

1Cor. 11:15
But if a woman have long hair, it is a glory to her: for her hair is given her for a covering.

As small children, we were inspired by our mother to keep our hair long because of her precious desire to one day wash the feet of Jesus. She would tell us that we couldn’t wash His feet if we had no hair to reach them. The little woman in the Bible, who was a sinner, washed His feet in her tears and with her hair, as did Mary, Lazarus’ sister, anointing our Saviour unto His burial.

Luke 7:37, 38
And behold, a woman in the city, which was a sinner, when she knew that Jesus sat at meat in the Pharisee’s house, brought an alabaster box of ointment, and stood at his feet behind him weeping, and began to wash his feet with tears, and did wipe them with the hairs of her head, and kissed his feet, and anointed them with the ointment.

John 12:3
Then took Mary a pound of ointment of spikenard, very costly, and anointed the feet of Jesus, and wiped his feet with her hair: and the house was filled with the odor of the ointment.

As we sincerely desired to be as these humble women, we kept these thoughts to our hearts, and later learned that it was God’s will for us to keep our hair long after all. We do not judge any woman for cutting her hair; it is for her to search in her own heart to hear what God asks of her, as she earnestly contends for the faith that which was once delivered unto the saints (Jude 1:3).

It is truly a sign of separation for a woman to grow out her hair. In the Bible, it speaks of the “Nazarite Vow,” which is a complete dedication to God and a separation from anything that is not of Him. We believe that every man and woman, every boy and girl, that’s born of the Spirit of God, is a Nazarite unto the Lord; because they’ve separated themselves from the cares of the world and whatever the world has got to say.

Numbers 6:2
Speak unto the children of Israel, and say unto them, when either man or woman shall separate themselves to vow a vow of a Nazarite, to separate themselves unto the Lord:

When people see us sisters as the Bible says we should be, we think it is a Nazarite sign that we want to follow the Lord. Seek Him for your answers and dedicate your life. He will show you how to separate yourself from the world and live in the Light of His Truth and Love. Also, we would always like to encourage people to look into these things for themselves so that God can reveal it to your own heart. This is very important, and God loves to spend that intimate time with the individual that is seeking his/her answers earnestly from Him. He personally writes it all straight to your heart.

(Scofield “Nazarite” defined): The Nazarite, sometimes spelled Nazirite (meaning one separated), was a person who was separated completely to the Lord. Abstention from wine, the symbol of natural joy (Ps. 104:15), was the expression of a devotedness which found all its joy in the Lord (cp. Ps 97:12; Hab. 3:18; Phil. 3:1; 4:4, 10). The long hair, naturally a reproach to a man (1Cor. 11:14), was at once the visible sign of the Nazarite’s separation and willingness to bear reproach for the Lord’s sake. The type found its perfect fulfillment in Jesus who was “holy, harmless, undefiled, separate from sinners” (Heb. 7:26), was utterly set apart to the Father (Jn. 1:18, 6:38), and allowed no mere natural claim to hinder or divert Him (Mt. 12:46-50).

Another common question has been asked of how we care for our hair, and how we get it so long. The honest truth is… there is no secret ingredient or magic potion. We do nothing other than any basic care. We try to keep our hair as natural as possible, meaning the use of the least amount of hair products as one can get by with. Hot irons tend to fry hair, so we don’t straighten, curl, or use anything that would create damage to it, and many products are so loaded with questionable ingredients that we just try to keep as simple as possible. Less is more, in other words! Although these simple techniques are not by any means set in stone, they are simply meant to give the reader an idea of how we see things.

Above all, if any of you ladies wish for your hair to grow healthy and strong, we sincerely believe that you can go right to God, lift this desire up to Him, and He will honor your prayer for long hair in glorifying Him. Pray for your hair, and thank Him every day for it! He knows all your thoughts and your motives, and He hears every desire of your heart. Praise Him for it, and go on as a walking billboard for Him; beautiful ladies shining your little light in this dark day, and pointing the passersby to the only One that can give them Life. We are on this earth a very short while. What a terrible thought to wake up one day when it is all over, and to wish we had lived differently or dedicated our lives more fully to Him than we had. It’s not too late to start at this very moment, so just press in to God with a longing fervor and watch Him move in your life each day. Do not waste a single moment! Lord bless you all, and may you always be encouraged to press on, no matter what the circumstances look like. We must always walk by faith, and not by what we see or what we conjure up in our minds of how we think things should be.

1Cor. 2:9
But as it is written, eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him.
